We are delighted to be welcoming Dr Jordan Tonakie a highly empathetic new male doctor to our practice in April just in time for our busy winter season. You can read about Dr Tonakie on his profile page.

Recently announced Free Influenza Vaccination 23/5/2022

The QLD health department has press released today that there will be free inflenza vaccinations available from GP practices today for all Queenslanders. This unfortunately is an example of extremely poor and premature communication from our health department once again as GP practices have NOT been allocated the vaccinations to give as of this date. We still have the free influenza vaccinations for at risk patients, over age 65 patients and for children from 6 months to 5 years. We also have some private vaccinations for $25 for all other patients. Please watch this website for when we are able to offer the free flu vaccinations for other groups.

28/3/2022 COVID and Vaccination Update

With COVID now become more prevalent in the community we will still need to be taking precautions within our practice due to the reason that an exposure for our medical staff would mean isolating for 7 days which then affects our ability to look after our patients

Despite the QLD Government lifting the mask rule, we would still ask all our patients to wear a mask whilst in our premises due to the closeness of potentially unwell people to other patients and our staff.

Temperature check

All patients will need their temperature checked at the door.

Hotspot or close contact exposure

If you have been asked to isolate or if you are a close contact of someone with COVID then please do not attend our practice and instead you can access our telehealth appointments. If you need to be seen, our doctors can advise you on the best course of action.

Unvaccinated patients

Although we respect the rights of the few patients who choose to remain unvaccinated, we ask that you respect our rights to ask you not to enter our premises unless a doctor has triaged your visit. Many things can be done via telehealth or as car park visits. We have decided this is the best way to be fair with all our patients vaccinated and unvaccinated. We will be asking for proof of vaccination at our door.

Unwell patients

If you are unwell with any fever, respiratory, ear nose throat, or abdominal illness then you are not to enter our premises and must make yourself aware to our staff to triage. We may ask you to use RAT tests and PCR to ascertain your risk to our staff if you need to be seen.

It saddens us to have to write this but we have had a number of patients lie about being well and being vaccinated when they are not. Any attempt to deceive our staff or doctors will be met with an instant dismissal from our premises and removal of the patient and their dependents from our books and we will not be seeing the patient or their dependents again. Additionally as we enter this volatile period we will not tolerate any abusive behaviour as mentioned below.

Due to the accessibility of vaccines in government run vaccination clinics and pharmacies, we have now ceased regular vaccination clinics, and will not be providing covid vaccine boosters.   We had been running clinics after-hours taking an exhausting toll on staff,  we have now decided to re-focus on providing medical care to the community.

Unfortunately, recent circumstances has led to an increase in negative interactions between patients and our staff.

We highly value the work of our medical and administration staff, particularly under these sustained challenging circumstances and we aim to be polite, helpful and sensitive to our patients’ needs and circumstances.

We ask you to treat our staff with the same courtesy. Abusive or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and may result patients being removed from our practice list.

What you need to know as patients of our practice.

To help us maintain a safe social distancing environment for all our staff and patients we ask that all our patients familiarise themselves with our current procedures aimed at minimising contact times between patients, staff and doctors.

If you are sick

If you are sick with any infection such as colds, allergies, fevers, cough, sore throat, gastro symptoms, sore throat, runny nose then please book a telehealth appointment to minimise the potential spread of your illness. We can then advise you on the the best management and whether we need to see you.

To minimise the risk of spreading infection we will continue to see all infective patients in the car park and our doctors will generally do the consultation over the phone before you are seen.

Our government has allowed a temporary Medicare rebate for consultations over the phone and this enables us to do consults that we may not need to see you for.

You can book these online or with our reception staff. Our doctors will then call you around the allocated time that you have booked in for. If you need to be seen then this can be organised with the doctor on the phone. The fees and rebates back to you are the same as our usual time based fees.

Examples of what consults that we can do over the phone include:

All sicknesses due to infection. Prescriptions, pathology and radiology request forms. Advice on chronic illnesses. Minor injuries that you want advice on. Care plans. Certficates.

When you arrive

Please do not arrive early as we are limiting how many people are allowed into the waiting room and outside our practice.

All adults are asked to attend alone if possible unless this has been cleared with the doctor beforehand. Please do not bring several family members or children with you.

We ask that only one adult attend with a child unless cleared with the doctor beforehand. Please ask the staff if you have a specific reason to have more than one support person with you.

When you arrive please stay outside our front doors until approached by our reception staff.

Please announce to our staff if you have a fever, cough, sneeze or runny nose when you arrive so we can take precautions.
