Welcome to Newmarket Family Doctors

Due to all the challenges due to COVID, our practice policies will likely be changing very frequently so please keep checking back to this home page for the latest updates.

We are no longer offering ear syringing for wax blocked ears

Although ear syringing has been a generally safe procedure to perform in General Practice, due to the rare occasional damage to an ear drum there has been a change in the legal liability of performing ear syringing compared to the newer techniques of ear suctioning. Due to this change we will no longer be offering ear syringing at our medical centre and will be looking at the costs of ear suctioning before we commit to offering it. Please speak to your GP about other options as there are still over the counter remedies and also other clinics that will offer ear cleaning services.

We are reducing telehealth consultations

Although the introduction of telehealth was a helpful tool during the COVID lockdown period, we unfortunately have found that it has been seen as a lesser service by some patients which they have been reluctant to pay for. As it is not financially viable for us to continue offering this service, we will now be reducing telehealth consultations. Telehealth will no longer be accessible as an online booking and only available via phoning our reception desk with prepayment required. It will not be used to manage a new complaints except for proven COVID, but we will still be using telehealth to review conditions or follow up at the discretion of the doctor.

Telehealth is charged at the same rates as our in person consult fees.

16/7/2022 COVID and Vaccination Update

With COVID and influenza now becoming more prevalent in the community we will still need to be taking precautions within our practice due to the reason that an exposure for our medical staff would mean isolating for 7 days which then affects our ability to look after our patients

Despite the QLD Government lifting the mask rule, we would still ask all our patients to wear a mask whilst in our premises due to the closeness of potentially unwell people to other patients and our staff.

Unwell patients

If you are unwell with any fever, respiratory, ear nose throat, or abdominal illness then you are not to enter our premises and must make yourself aware to our staff to triage. We may ask you to use RAT tests and PCR to ascertain your risk to our staff if you need to be seen.

To minimise the risk of spreading infection we will continue to see all infective patients in the car park and our doctors will generally do the consultation over the phone before you are seen.

We also have open air seating on the verandah available for those who are unwell or wanting to remain outside.

Due to the accessibility of vaccines in government run vaccination clinics and pharmacies, we have now ceased regular vaccination clinics, and will not be providing covid vaccine boosters.   We had been running clinics after-hours taking an exhausting toll on staff,  we have now decided to re-focus on providing medical care to the community.

Unfortunately, recent circumstances has led to an increase in negative interactions between patients and our staff.

We highly value the work of our medical and administration staff, particularly under these sustained challenging circumstances and we aim to be polite, helpful and sensitive to our patients’ needs and circumstances.

We ask you to treat our staff with the same courtesy. Abusive or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and may result patients being removed from our practice list.
