Dr Cedric Chu MBBS FRACGP

Dr Cedric Chu

Dr Cedric Chu is an owner and original founding member of Newmarket Family Doctors and was also an original founding member of our previous medical practice at Homezone, Windsor.

Dr Chu graduated from the University of Queensland in 1994 and had worked for 5 years in Ipswich and 2 years in Newmarket before opening up a very successful medical centre in Windsor in 2002 which he helped build up over 10 years.

However, believing that having a doctor owned medical centre is the best way to provide the best patient care, he joined with Dr Tania Jardine and Dr David Carroll to open Newmarket Family Doctors in 2013.

He has also worked for 2 years all over Ireland doing locum work.

Cedric enjoys all aspects of General Practice, but in particular he enjoys the diagnostic challenges of difficult or complex cases. He is well regarded for thinking outside the square and also enjoys being an analytical problem solver.

He enjoys educating patients on medical problems, and his ethos is to treat every patient like a medical student to encourage patients to understand, and be responsible for their medical decisions.

Dr Chu is highly regarded as a logical thinker but with a high level of patient empathy which attracts patients who want a logical plan of attack with their health and emotional problems.

Although Dr Chu is proficient at all aspects of general practice, his special interest areas are biomechanics in relation to musculoskeletal and sports injuries, headaches, neck and shoulder problems, paediatrics, anxiety counselling, minor ops including toenail operations, healthy life style advice including diet and exercise advice, and workcover injuries. He is also actively involved in teaching medical students.

Dr Chu is also passionate about applying evolutionary principles and theories to medicine with a particular focus on evolutionary psychology, parenting, dieting and biomechanics.

When not spending time with his young daughter, outside of medicine Cedric's interests include martial arts, running, gym work, digital painting, and moonlighting as a cartoonist. He is also addicted to travel and in his mid 40's has backpacked to 67 countries on 7 continents and is hoping to get to every country in the world before he dies.

Dr Chu was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Maryborough so unfortunately does not speak any Chinese languages.

Dr Chu is also available to speak on a varied group of topics and is often asked to speak at inservice trainings for doctors and allied health professionals, as well as public groups. Please view his website at www.drcedricchu.com.au for more information.
